Speeding through the night

The wheather has definately changed. The stable conditions of the past weeks are replaced by fierce north-western winds. It was good to take shelter and some rest ? on the Humlum campsite. We had a good stay there and the owners of the campsite were very nice and helpful.

Despite the harsh wind and the nice place, we get restless and check the wheather forecasts continuously. Right now it’s force 6. Tonight the wind will be less, so we decide to leave tonight at 8 pm.

And right on scedule we leave. The wind is reduced but the waves grow bigger as we head into the direction of the ilse of Venø on the other side of the bay. We feel secure in our drysuits as we sail through the water. The wind doesn’t seem to get less and the waves, coming from the side get more wildly. We take advantage of the waves and speed along the isle of Venø, sometimes at 10 or even 12 km/hour, while normally we do 5 to 8.

We have fun, but stay attentive. However, this is not something to keep up for hours. The wind, still fierce, comes over the whole length of the lake and has turned, so now on our intended route there are not many places for shelter. So we change course and set for the ilse of Venø which we heard is very beautiful. In the shelter of the eastern shore of Venø we arrive in the early night on a very nice campsite with several seakajaks laying at the watersite. There we end the day with a hot cup of soup?
